Katrina’s hair is always messy and her heart is always open! She has a background in biological sciences and education and her E-RYT 500. She studied with and works alongside Brett Larkin and Guru Singh at Uplifted™ Yoga and Kundalini University. Katrina owns two physical studios, Shine Yoga Garage, in the heart of the midwest cornfields of Illinois, and is opening a second in her hometown, Shine Yoga + Wellness. She teaches practitioners through her local and global online studio and enjoys leading hundreds of students a year into stepping into their personal teaching power as a lead yoga teacher trainer. She is especially passionate about trauma-informed yoga and yoga for youth and leads those components of the teacher trainings.
Always keep your head up and heart open is Katrina’s motto. She has survived an eating disorder, a school shooting, and an abusive marriage. She used yoga to take her power back and find her voice and continues to use it as an anchor to manage the resulting anxiety, PTSD, and digestive disorders from the trauma she has experienced. Kundalini Yoga has been instrumental in her own healing and navigation of her mind and she is passionate about taking the intimidation out of the practice and sharing it in a trauma-informed way with kids and adults.
Katrina deeply understands that sometimes there is so much to heal that we don’t know where to start. She loves to use the chakras and astrology as a map for both herself and what she offers to the collective. She especially loves to work with the cycles of the moon and our bodies encouraging students to honor themselves through the cycles and seasons of life. She curates embodied yoga and reflection moon workbooks and circles to align with the lunar energy.
Katrina is a Taurus sun, Pisces moon, and Sagittarius rising. Her warm earthy energy and calming voice combined with her love of learning and ability to deeply empathize make her a powerhouse healer. However, she would much rather you consider yourself to be your own healer as she simply guides and suggests. Striving to turn her trauma into her dharma, she makes all of her offerings safe and compassionate. You can truly feel how genuinely Katrina cares about each individual and you can witness her shift gears to meet students where they are as she teaches both classes and yoga teacher trainings.
Katrina considers yoga to be an anchor in her life and loves to share “anchor tools” to help students return home to their own bodies and their hearts. Her favorite anchor tools are mudras. She believes it’s always helpful to do something with your hands, especially when it helps direct energy and intention!
Katrina teaches meditation, mudra, journaling, hatha, vinyasa, yin, restorative, yoga nidra, kids, trapeze, and kundalini classes. All of her classes are trauma-mindful, alignment-based, fun, and empowering. She might occasionally speak to the grown-ups in kids yoga language and tell you to be a snake or a dog, but that’s just all part of the fun! She would love nothing more than to help you remember your power, your voice, and your body’s wisdom as you move, meditate, breathe and heal with her!
