Sagittarius New Moon Mudra: Vayu — cultivate adventurous expansion, seek true direction, and embody inspired freedom.
Welcome to the Sagittarius New Moon:
This Sagittarius New Moon invites you to open toward expansion — not through pushing or striving, but through honesty, intention, and true direction. Sagittarius is the seeker and the archer of the zodiac, reminding you that freedom comes from aligning with what feels true, not from how far or fast you go. As both the sun and moon meet in this fire sign, you’re invited to release rigidity, trust your inner compass, and reconnect with optimism, wisdom, and possibility. This New Moon asks you to aim your energy with care and courage, honoring where you are while opening to where you’re going.
Our featured Vayu Mudra embodies this expansive Sagittarian energy — a simple, uplifting hand shape that supports easeful breathing, lightness of being, and an open, receptive heart. This mudra gently encourages expansion without overwhelm, helping you cultivate appreciation, sensitivity, and trust as you move forward. You could also pair this practice with the reflections or embodiment practices in the Sagittarius New Moon Embodied Workbook if you’d like to explore this lunar energy more fully, or with the Sagittarius Season Workbook if you feel called to deepen your connection to Sagittarius energy.
And if you’d like to move through the lunar cycles in community, our memberships are here to hold you — with live classes, recorded practices, new and full moon workbooks, and an ever-growing library of supportive tools. Check out ways to practice mudras and more with our empowering yoga community on our live class schedule.
Katrina Marie Yoga is a supportive space to practice, reflect, and remember that you don’t have to do this all at once — or alone. You can simply start where the moon is — right here, right now — and allow her to guide you back to your own sense of direction, rhythm, and truth.
Above all, let this Sagittarius New Moon remind you that expansion doesn’t require urgency. It unfolds breath by breath and intentional step by intentional step. Take what you need and leave what you don’t. Perhaps begin right here, with this mudra and the practices that support inspired freedom, true direction, and ease along the way.
🫶🏻Practice Vayu Mudra:
WHEN
Around the Sagittarius New Moon, when both the sun and moon align in Sagittarius’ energy of adventurous expansion, true direction, and inspired freedom.
WHY:
The Sagittarius New Moon is a time to reconnect with optimism, wisdom, and possibility while gently aiming yourself toward what feels true. This practice supports easeful expansion — helping you breathe more fully, open your heart, and cultivate a sense of lightness and trust as you move forward. Vayu Mudra invites expansion without force, allowing direction and freedom to arise naturally.
Benefits:
• Instills a sense of lightness and ease in the body and mind
• Supports easeful, expansive breathing
• Develops gracefulness and sensitivity
• Cultivates appreciation of beauty, wonder, and possibility
• Encourages a lighter, more open attitude toward life and self
• Supports balance between giving and receiving
• Gently opens the subtle heart, inviting optimism, trust, and inspired freedom
HOW:
Find any comfortable seat, perhaps on the edge of a bolster or folded blanket to support balance in your pelvis and through your hips — somatically ruled by Sagittarius..
Bring the tips of your index fingers to the base of your thumbs on each hand.
Secure your index fingers gently with your thumbs.
Extend your other fingers.
Rest the backs of your hands on your legs or lap with your palms facing up.
Soften your shoulders and align your spine.
Allow your breath to slow and become spacious.
BREATHE:
Breathe in and out through your nose if available.
Inhale for a count of 3.
Pause and be with the breath for a count of 3.
Exhale for a count of 3.
Pause and be without the breath for a count of 3.
Continue for several rounds, then gently explore expanding the count to 4, 5, or beyond — only as it feels easeful and supportive.
Honor your boundaries, stretching the breath just enough to remind yourself of your capacity for expansion.
After a few minutes, release control of your breath and continue holding the mudra as you reflect on where you are ready to open, explore, and aim yourself next.
MANTRA:
Repeat these mantras silently or out loud as you hold the mudra. Let their intention settle into your body, guiding you into the energy of the Sagittarius New Moon:
I open to adventurous expansion.
I move forward with true direction and inspired freedom.
EMBODY YOUR INTENTION:
After an exhale, release the mudra and allow your hands to rest where they feel most supported. Take a moment to notice what has shifted — even subtly.
Where in your life are you ready to expand with more ease?
What direction feels honest, freeing, and aligned right now?
Let your body answer.
Let your breath guide you.
Let optimism and curiosity illuminate your next step.
Set an intention on this Sagittarius New Moon to move forward with trust, openness, and inspired freedom.
You may choose to write your intention down and place it somewhere you’ll see it as a reminder throughout this lunar cycle.
May it guide you gently as you explore what’s possible.
May this Sagittarius New Moon support you in opening with ease, trusting your direction, and moving forward with inspired freedom.
