Aries New Moon Mudra: Mushtika — a practice for bold new potential, aligned action, and fierce leadership
Welcome to the Aries New Moon:
The Aries New Moon arrives as a spark of bold new potential — a moment to meet yourself with courage, clarity, and trust in what's ready to unfold. As the first new moon of the astrological year — Aries being the first sign of the zodiac — this lunation carries a powerful invitation to step into new beginnings with intention, to step boldly into what you are becoming, and to direct your fire toward what truly matters. This lunation reminds you that beginnings don't have to be perfect; they just have to be true. As the sun and moon meet in this fiery sign, you are invited to move beyond hesitation and into action — to ignite, to lead, to become. Let this moon remind you that each time you choose yourself and take that next brave step, you become the fire that lights your own way forward.
Our featured Mushtika Mudra embodies this fierce Aries energy — a hand shape for determination and transformation. This mudra activates your inner fire and anchors your courage, creating a strong and steady foundation so bold action can arise with purpose, clarity, and embodied truth. You could also pair this practice with the reflections or embodiment practices in the Aries New Moon Embodied Workbook if you'd like to work more intentionally with this lunar energy, or with the Aries Season Workbook if you feel called to continue deepening your relationship with Aries's wisdom.
And if you'd like to move through the lunar cycles in community, our memberships are here to hold you — with live classes, recorded practices, new and full moon workbooks, and an ever-growing library of supportive tools. Check out ways to practice mudras and more with our empowering yoga community on our live class schedule.
Katrina Marie Yoga is a supportive space to practice, reflect, and remember that you don't have to carry everything alone. You can simply start where the moon is — right here, right now — and allow her to guide you back to your own sense of boldness, purpose, and inner fire.
Above all, let this Aries New Moon remind you that your potential is bold, your action can be aligned, and your leadership is fierce and embodied. Take what you need and leave what you don't. Perhaps begin right here, with this mudra and the practices that support determination, courage, and the fire to become who you are here to be.
🫶🏻Practice Mushtika Mudra:
WHEN
Around the Aries New Moon, when both the sun and moon align in Aries's fiery energy of bold new potential, aligned action, and fierce leadership.
WHY:
The Aries New Moon invites recommitment to yourself — not from pressure or perfection, but from courage, clarity, and trust in your own becoming. Mushtika Mudra supports determination and transformation, helping you anchor into your inner fire as you clarify what you want to ignite this new astrological year. This practice offers a strong, steady foundation so bold action can be taken sustainably, with purpose and fierce, embodied truth guiding each step forward.
Benefits:
supports determination, courage, and transformation
activates the inner fire and solar plexus energy
encourages bold action aligned with your purpose
helps steady the mind and anchor resolve
supports leadership that is both fierce and heart-centered
creates a strong foundation for new beginnings with intention
HOW:
Find a comfortable seated place, adding support under your sit bones if that feels nourishing.
Curl your fingers inward on each hand and extend your thumbs up.
Join the heels of your hands together, aligning your thumbs to extend upwards together.
Rest this shape gently in front of you with your wrists near or against your solar plexus (navel).
Soften your shoulders and sit tall through your spine.
BREATHE:
Begin Skull Shining Breath — and yes, the name is intentional. Aries somatically rules the head, and this breath literally lights it up. It activates your inner fire from the navel center all the way through the crown, making it one of the most aligned practices you can do with this moon. Clarifying, powerful, and very Aries.
Take a big inhale.
Exhale through your nose to powerfully hug your solar plexus in.
Let the following inhale through your nose be passive and longer as you release the hug and welcome air back into your lungs.
Continue for 3–5 minutes, allowing each exhale to stoke your inner fire and each inhale to expand your capacity to receive.
When you're ready, release control of the breath and continue holding the mudra in quiet awareness.
MANTRA:
Repeat silently or out loud as you hold the mudra, allowing the words to settle into your body and guide your intention for this new moon:
I am bold in my becoming.
I act in alignment with my purpose.
I lead with fierce, embodied truth.
EMBODY YOUR INTENTION:
After an exhale, release the mudra and allow your hands to rest where they feel most natural. Take a moment to notice what has shifted — even subtly.
Where in your life are you ready to step into new beginnings with more courage and clarity?
What action has been waiting for you to say "hell yes" — and what would it mean to finally take it?
What kind of leader do you want to be for yourself this new astrological year?
Let your body answer.
Let your breath guide you.
Let determination and fierce truth illuminate your next step.
Set an intention on this Aries New Moon to move forward with bold new potential, aligned action, and fierce leadership — one brave step, one breath, one beginning at a time.
You may choose to write your intention down and place it somewhere you'll see it as a reminder throughout this lunar cycle.
May it support you as you ignite, lead, and become.
May this Aries New Moon support you in stepping boldly into your potential, moving with aligned action, and leading with fierce, embodied truth.
