A Mudra for Earth Day: Bhu — support the cycle of grounding, blessings, and support we share with planet Earth
We get to call this beautiful planet home.
Bhu Mudra is a gesture of grounding, stability, and connection to the Earth beneath you and around you. It supports moments when you need to feel held, steady, and supported — when the noise of the world makes it hard to remember that the ground is always there. This mudra helps you draw energy and support up from the Earth and return it with gratitude, creating a living, breathing exchange between you and the planet you call home.
Earth Day is an invitation to remember that you are not separate from the Earth — you are made of her. The same elements that make up the mountains, the soil, and the sea live inside your body. Taurus season reminds us of this too. It is no coincidence that Earth Day falls during this most earthy of seasons, when the invitation is to slow down, feel your feet on the ground, and appreciate the beauty and abundance that surrounds you. This is a time to receive the Earth's blessings and to give them back.
Practice this mudra anytime you want to honor the reciprocity between you and the Earth — receiving and giving abundantly.

🫶🏻MUDRA: Bhu
Benefits of Bhu Mudra:
supports the health of the bones — a reminder that we are made of the same elements as the Earth
supports the root (Muladhara) chakra
connects you to the energy and support of the Earth
cultivates stability, steadiness, and security
supports a felt sense of grounding and support
supports presence and embodiment
Why practice Bhu Mudra:
Practice Bhu Mudra to support embodied grounding and connection on Earth Day. This mudra helps you feel the Earth beneath you as a living source of support and blessing, inviting you to both receive and return that energy freely. It supports meeting this sacred day with presence, gratitude, and a deep sense of belonging right where you are.
How to practice Bhu Mudra:
Find a comfortable seat with both sit bones anchored. Bring your ring and pinky fingers into the center of your palm on each hand. Secure them with your thumbs. Keep your index and middle fingers extended as if giving a peace sign. Touch the tips of your middle and index fingers to the Earth in front of you or by your sides. Soften your shoulders and align your spine.
🧘🏻♀️MEDITATION: Circulating Earth Blessings
WHY:
Practice this meditation to support embodied grounding through breath and connection. This practice helps you feel the steady, generous support of the Earth beneath you and creates a circulating current of blessings between you and her. It offers a grounded, receptive way to receive what the Earth is offering and to give something back.
PLACE:
Gently come to a comfortable seat on the ground (like the actual Earth!), the floor, or a pillow, cushion, or chair. Anchor both sit bones evenly and align your shoulders over your hips.
MUDRA:
Invitation to find Bhu Mudra by bringing your ring and pinky fingers into the center of your palm on each hand. Secure them with your thumbs. Keep your index and middle fingers extended as if giving a peace sign. Touch the tips of your middle and index fingers to the Earth in front of you or by your sides. Soften your shoulders and align your spine.
PRANAYAMA:
Connect to your breath. Each inhale, your belly expands and fills. Each exhale, it releases and surrenders. With each inhale, begin to imagine drawing in support and energy from the Earth. Pause briefly as you let it circulate your being. Then, with each exhale, imagine sending support and energy back into the Earth from yourself. Continue for 1-3 minutes.
DRISHTI:
As you settle into your breath, if it feels safe and comfortable, allow your eyelids to soften and close.
TO END:
Inhale deeply and savor the breath as long as comfortable as you focus on how the Earth blesses you. When you need to exhale, release your breath and hand shape and pause to reflect on what you are sensing.
