Aquarius Full Moon Mudra: claim your unapologetic individuality, belong without conforming, and lead the way for the change only you can create
Welcome to the Aquarius Full Moon:
The Aquarius Full Moon invites you to stop editing yourself. This lunation brings illumination to where you have been living on autopilot, where you have been dimming yourself to fit in, and the uniqueness that has been yours all along. Aquarius asks you to question the old ways, to open to new ways of thinking, doing, and being, and to trust that your difference is a contribution and not a flaw. There is a version of belonging that costs you yourself, and this moon is here to show you it was never the real thing. You do not have to become smaller or quieter or anything else to be acknowledged and accepted.
Our featured Garuda Mudra embodies this open Aquarian energy, a hand shape for communication, expression, freedom, and openness. Garuda is the Sanskrit word for eagle, and this mudra invites that same wide, unhurried, unafraid quality into your body. It softens the tension you carry in your neck, jaw, and face and clears the way for honest expression, so the voice that leads change can move through you without apology. You could also pair this practice with the reflections and embodiment practices in the Aquarius Full Moon Embodied Workbook if you would like to work more intentionally with this lunar energy.
And if you would like to move through the lunar cycles in community, our memberships are here to hold you, with live classes, recorded practices, new and full moon workbooks, and an ever-growing library of supportive tools. Check out ways to practice mudras and more with our empowering yoga community on our live class schedule.
Above all, Katrina Marie Yoga is a space to practice, reflect, and remember that your uniqueness is not the thing standing between you and belonging. It is the thing the world has been waiting on. Your voice matters most in the moments it feels scariest to use, and you do not need anyone's permission to take up the space you already occupy. You are allowed to be all of yourself, out loud, in front of people who may not be comfortable with it.
So take what you need and leave what you don't. Perhaps for now, begin by aligning with the energy of the Aquarius Full Moon through the following mudra and the tools that accompany it.
🫶🏻Practice Garuda Mudra:
WHEN:
Around the Aquarius Full Moon, when the moon illuminates themes of unapologetic individuality, belonging without conforming, and leading the way for change.
WHY:
This moon asks you to express, and expression often begins in the throat. Garuda Mudra opens your voice so you can use it to create change for yourself and for others. It softens the neck, jaw, and face, the places you have quietly held everything you decided not to say. As that tension releases, expression stops feeling like a risk and starts feeling like a release. Let this hand shape be an invitation, not a requirement. Take it for as long as it feels supportive, and trade it in for any shape that feels truer to you today.
BENEFITS:
Supports open and honest communication
Encourages freedom, openness, and full expression
Supports the health of your throat and vocal anatomy
Softens tension through your neck, jaw, and face
Supports alignment of your cervical spine
Supports your Throat (Vishuddha) Chakra
Connects to the Air element
HOW:
Find a comfortable seat with both sit bones anchored.
Place your left hand over your heart with your palm facing your heart space and your thumb pointing up.
Cross your right wrist over top of your left and link your thumbs. Fan your other fingers out.
Hold this comfortably against your upper chest.
Soften your shoulders and align your spine.
BREATHE:
Long Sat Nams:
Find a comfortable seat. Find Garuda Mudra or any other hand shape that feels true for you. Begin to connect to deep diaphragmatic breaths. Use the power of your belly to inhale deeply and exhale fully. Begin to mentally chant SAT on the inhale and NAM on the exhale. SAT NAM translates to truth is my identity. Continue for 3 to 5 minutes.
MANTRA:
Repeat silently or aloud:
I am my truest self, out loud, and without apology.
I belong without changing who I am.
I lead the way for the change only I can create.
EMBODY YOUR RELEASE:
When your practice feels complete, release control of your breath and sit with the hand shape as you reflect. Notice what shifts as you allow the habit of shrinking or silencing to soften and your own authentic expression to rise.
Let the Aquarius Full Moon illuminate what is ready to be released, the comparing, the conforming, and the parts of yourself you have been editing out to keep other people comfortable. Allow belonging to replace fitting in. Feel it in your body.
Invite your breath to settle. Invite your body to soften. Invite your voice to rise.
As you release, may you remember that your difference was never what kept you from belonging. It is the thing you were sent here to be.
May this Aquarius Full Moon remind you that you are allowed to be entirely yourself, that belonging never required you to be smaller, and that the change you are here to lead can only be led by you.
