Virgo New Moon Mudra: Prithivi — a practice for sacred routine, embodied goddess energy, and grace in imperfection
Welcome to the Virgo New Moon:
The Virgo New Moon arrives as a moment of mindful renewal, an invitation to refine your routines and return to what truly supports your health and healing. As the sign of devotion and sacred service, Virgo reminds you that growth and improvement are not about perfection, but presence. This lunation invites you to bring love into your daily rituals, to honor the goddess within through steady care, and to let grace replace criticism. Virgo can get critical, but it is a mutable sign, and it reminds you that it is always okay to adapt and change. Let this moon remind you that every small, intentional act of tending to yourself and your dreams is an act of devotion to your happiness and wholeness. Which then allows you to be of greatest service to others.
Our featured Prithivi Mudra embodies this earthy Virgo energy, a hand shape for embodiment, centering, and grounding. This mudra steadies you in your body so you can look honestly at your habits without criticism, honor the goddess you already are, and remember that your so called “imperfections” are what make you a goddess. You could also pair this practice with the reflections and embodiment practices in the Virgo New Moon Embodied Workbook if you'd like to work more intentionally with this lunar energy.
And if you'd like to move through the lunar cycles in community, our membershipsare here to hold you, with live classes, recorded practices, new and full moon workbooks, and an ever-growing library of supportive tools. Check out ways to practice mudras and more with our empowering yoga community on our live class schedule.
Above all, Katrina Marie Yoga is a space to practice, reflect, and remember that you are worthy without conditions. Perfection is boring. Your imperfections are what make a real difference in your own life and in the world. You are already enough, exactly as you are, and caring for yourself is a necessary ritual rather than something you have to earn.
So take what you need and leave what you don't. Perhaps for now, begin by aligning with the energy of the Virgo New Moon through the following mudra and the tools that accompany it.
🫶🏻 Practice Prithivi Mudra:
WHEN:
Around the Virgo New Moon, when both the sun and moon align in earthy Virgo, illuminating sacred routine, embodied goddess energy, and grace in imperfection.
WHY:
This moon asks you to refine your routines without criticizing yourself in the process. Prithivi Mudra meets you there. It grounds you into your body and instills a sense of security and trust, so you can look honestly at your habits and honor the goddess you already are. If this shape does not feel resonant in your body, you are welcome to trade it for any hand position that supports you. Your body's wisdom always comes first.

HOW:
Find a comfortable seat with both sit bones anchored. Perhaps prop your sit bones to get your hips a little higher than your knees.
Join the tip of your ring finger to the tip of your thumb on each hand.
Extend your other fingers straight out.
Rest the backs of your hands on your knees or legs comfortably.
Soften your shoulders and align your spine.
BREATHE:
Begin Sama Vritti, or Square Breath, a breath practice to steady, ground, and heal. Virgo somatically rules your belly. As you practice this, let each equal part of the breath settle into your belly, offering acceptance and love as you digest both nutrients and emotions.
Find any comfortable seated place with your sit bones anchored into the Earth or support.
Keep your hands in Prithivi Mudra, or choose any hand placement that feels resonant.
Inhale through your nose for a count of 5.
Pause and be with that breath for a count of 5.
Exhale through your nose for a count of 5.
Hold empty for a count of 5.
Continue for 3 to 5 minutes. Invitation to adjust the count as needed, but try to keep the pieces equal as best you can.
When you're ready, release control of the breath and continue holding the mudra as you sit in reflection.
MANTRA:
Repeat silently or out loud as you hold the mudra, allowing the words to settle into your body and guide your intention for this new moon:
I honor my sacred routines in devotion to my healing and wholeness.
I live as the goddess I am, embodying innate worthiness and gentle power.
I honor my imperfections as proof that I am growing and contributing with grace.
EMBODY YOUR INTENTION:
After an exhale, release the mudra and control of your breath, and allow your hands to rest where they feel most natural. Take a moment to pause and be in your body. Notice what has shifted, even just a little.
Where in your daily life do you already tend yourself well, and how does it feel in your body when you do?
If you stopped calling it discipline and started calling it devotion, what would you want to keep doing?
What is one small thing you could offer yourself this cycle, not to fix anything, but because you are worth tending?
Let your body answer.
Let your breath guide you.
Let sacred routine and grace in imperfection illuminate your next step.
Write down what rises. Let it become your intention for this lunar cycle, something to return to as this moon grows. May it support you as you tend your rituals, honor the goddess you are, and offer yourself grace.
May this Virgo New Moon support you in honoring your sacred routines, embodying the goddess you already are, and finding grace in your imperfections.
